18 September, 2008sevfive : ii/se??I mentioned earlier my new internet connection is up & running.
What I didn't mention were the issues involved which have now caused disaster & as I write this "sevfive" is down & I'm unsure if it's going to be back in the same place or if this is being read at a new location! I originally had a dial up account through "senet.com.au" & hence that is where this site is uploaded via ftp. In order to obtain broadband, a second account was required & this was a similar user name but through "iinet.com.au". Both domains are one & the same company & the process used made sense, but I had a proviso being the senet account would be reinstated once the broadband was live. They agreed to this. Basically, if I couldn't keep the same email address, I would have changed providers. With the new connection running perfectly, I called to arrange the changeover this & instead of killing the iinet account, the support person disabled the senet account & simply linked the senet email address to the iinet account, thereby erasing this site on that server! I've since called again & 'supposedly' the correction has been made based on the original information. I must have clarified the details with the support person three or four times to ensure my sanity, but at the end of the call, she said another email address was linked ending with a "1"?!? Where did that come from?! So, overall is it correct? Not a clue!! I'll check it tonight if I still have access! Update later in the day - Well, the configuration is correct & working, but everything on the senet server was erased. Thankfully, I did a backup not too long ago & uploaded all the content again. A few links are down but I'll sort them as I find them. I do have to find a new password for my account though. When I first started with senet back in 2000, it had to be six letters. A few years later it needed to be nine characters with at least one number. Now, it needs to be a minimum of nine characters, contain letters & numbers, upper & lower case & the password cannot end in a number. What the hell??! It's too bloody hard! In the process of trying to invent a password which fulfills all the criteria, I've managed to memorise their system generation of random characters which was the temporary password!! That might just have to do! 0 Comments:
17 September, 2008sevfive : miaIt seems I've been misplaced.
There has been an email issue at work which has resulted in some emails being recieved & some not. It's damn frustrating & I only discovered it through a hunch. I sent three from an external address & I'm still waiting on the first two, but got the third! Yeah, that works! When your normal daily delivery fades from a dozen or so to just a couple, something is wrong or I'm just unloved. Speaking of which, I have actually been waiting for what I consider to be an important message from someone (a girl) & I can't call to see if they have responded due to complex reasons. If they haven't sent me a message, I can live with that, but if they have & I haven't got it, I'll be royally peaved. Does, that make sense? No? Good! I did receive a message from an affiliated business via our receptionist. Apparently, they would have normally called me direct, but they heard I no longer work where I am!?! It's complete news to me & because I've spoken with the powers that be since, I've assumed I'm still employed! 0 Comments:
12 September, 2008sevfive : movedOkay, so I'm all stuffed into my new address & now I've got boxes everywhere & nothing to unpack their contents into. Cabinets & bookcases are required with a couple of trips to Ikea in the planning. Yeah, the reputation is that Ikea stuff is generally crap, but it's also cheap & the need outweighs the quality at this point.
I picked the right day to shift everything over though. Saturday morning was fine & sunny as the last set of boxes & bedding were loaded on the trailer. On waking for my first morning in new digs, all I could hear was pelting rain & plenty of wind for a very ordinary Sunday. Both guitars travelled well & actually stayed in tune, which defies all laws of quantum physics (I'm sure it's in there somewhere!). They sound good with a bit more room to fill & I don't think any sound deadening is required, at least until the neighbours call the police anyway. Getting the new DSL connection up & running was a challenge. With everything plugged where it should, nothing. I couldn't get any sort of network link between the modem & computer, yet I could clearly see the network card working & a network connection under the control panel was showing how long it had been connected. Only once I disconnected the modem & the network connection remained active did it make sense. I pulled out the drivers disk & discovered the network card had never been installed & the other connection was for Fire Wire. I'd never used either, so I had no idea what was right or wrong. A few minutes later & I had a nice speedy internet connection & Voip. I scored a cheap from the workplace. All the old tv's are being replaced with shiny new LCD's & the old monster CRT's are being sold to staff to get rid of them. It's a nice Sony Wega which has hardly seen any use & at present is the only item in my lounge room albeit a couple of camping chairs! I haven't met the neighbours yet. One side is any empty house which is owned by the state Government. They provide housing for families in need, but it's been empty for the last couple of months, so all the homeless people around the place must be happy with their circumstances. The other side own half a dozen cars & so far haven't made a sound. I think there is a father & daughter & her daughter, but I could also be completely wrong! Time will tell. 0 Comments:
