25 March, 2011sevfive : froggy foamI have a frog in my pond who is extremely proud today. That white patch in the photo is foam which contain dozens of tadpole embryos & their father is making a whole lot of noise celebrating. Based on my observations over the last couple of years, the foam soon dissipates as the tadpoles hatch, and the ants tend to attack the foam as well. Since there are no fish in this pond, there are no other predators, so a good quantity should survive. I scooped some eggs out a few weeks ago & there was nothing in the foam, but there were a couple of tadpoles in the water. I kept them in a jar inside & over a week they changed considerably in size. My folks now have them sitting on their kitchen window sill so they can watch them develop & once they get too big, I'll just add them back to the pond!
