22 April, 2011sevfive : halofireYou've seen all the commercials which suggest you change all your light globes to the energy saving variety? Well, here's something to think about. In the photo above, where the glass enters the plastic of the globe, is where all the smoke was produced which filled my house. Thankfully, I noticed the light go out from where I was & at first I just ignored it, until I looked closer & saw a continuous plume of smoke rising to the roof. I managed to remove the globe with a tea towel as it was way too hot to touch. Was there a flame at any point? I just don't know, but I do know I prefer to hear that little clink from the element of a good old regular Thomas Edison light globe. At least you know nothing else is going to happen. It's also not the first of these energy saving globes I've had which let go in this manner. They may be saving money on your electricity bill but the potential of your house burning down kind of outweighs those savings!

sevfive : no totoDue to my sister being in the orchestra for Wicked, I managed to see the forth & final preview show before it was opened to the paying public. I've seen countless musicals due to my sister's involvement over the years & this is her first professional show. I really do dislike amateur shows these days. It just annoys me that they have no budget for decent looking sets or time to find actors & dancers who have talent. When you get to see something like Wicked, it's nice to see something which has been put together properly. For free seats, they ended up being the second row from the back & a loooong way from the stage, but it was an excellent show & actually has a few decent surprises. If you can get tickets in a decent spot, they would be well worth paying for.

07 April, 2011sevfive : mmm avocaOn Tuesday nights, the Avoca Hotel is the place for a$10 schnitzel, so I'm regularly in attendance with a mate of mine. However, due to constraints we ended up going on a Thursday. The menu is always read & each time we still end up with a Parmiagiana, but not tonight. I tested the Singapore noodles for the first time & for the only Asian dish on the menu, made by a non Asian venue, they really were tasty. I might have found a Parmy alternative, but a $10 schnitty is still going to be hard to get past next Tuesday!
